The Many Benefits of Citizen Journalism

Citizen journalism is all about people collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information especially on the social media.

This is not my definition, but that of Wikipedia.

As we all know, our world is now a global village. Therefore, we all are reporters or citizen journalists using online platforms to tell the entire world what is happening around us.

Trained journalists now rely on the social media and citizen reporters to get tips on what is happening around the world.

These tips are downloaded and then processed in accordance with the journalism ethics and then sold back to the same members of the public.

But, the truth is that hard copies of newspapers and magazines are not selling much these days. Online media platforms, blogs, forums, directories and the social media have taken over. This is good for humanity.

A citizen journalist can make a living from collecting and passing on of information, photos, tips and events for established newspapers, magazines, websites, blogs and forums for publication. This may or may be free.

But, the value of a citizen reporter helping to spread the news, good, bad or ugly will have impart on our world.

This is because lots and lots of people out there benefit one way or the other from the conventional or the social media.

These persons could be researchers, security experts, housewives, business people, bankers, journalists, lecturer, online marketers, motivational speakers, sportsmen and women, etc.

We all need the right information at any point in time to make informed opinion and decisions. And it is the media that will help us here.

Since trained journalists cannot be everywhere at the same time, the contributions of citizen reporters to informing, educating and entertaining members of the public becomes very handy.

But, the social media is not regulated for now. Therefore, some information posted on the social media are not processed. This is where our world leaders should come in.

Apart from the monetary benefits, citizen reporters will also experience a sense of fulfillment when they know that their contributions are helping to shape the world in order to make it a better place. This is immortal and goes beyond money.

I feel deep down that with time, the social media will fall in line and be able to regulate itself.

To a citizen reporter, there are many jobs out there for you and there are no limits to how much money you could make passing on tips, information and photos to established media outfits, websites, blogs and forums for possible publications.

New Data On Corporal Punishment – Viable Option For Solving Child Misbehavior?

There is significant merit to the claim that children only listen for fear of punishment, and may deviate once out of their parents’ control. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Your child will carry his/her negative experiences in his/her mind, body and soul until she/he has an awakening and the trauma from physical punishment is healed in mind, body and spirit.

Contrary to popular belief the majority of western parents approve and promote hitting children as a well-accepted method to correct unacceptable child behavior. The majority of Americans promote and condone physical punishment in the home in all 50-states, and 19 states condone and promote physical punishment in school. 42 countries ban corporal punishment in the home and school. What do these 42 countries know that Americans are turning a blind eye?

A full list of countries that enacted laws prohibiting violence against children in the home and school is courtesy of the Global Initiative to End Corporal Punishment. Most recent first:

Learning More About the Terror Watch List

What a terrorist watch list is

The terrorist watch list is officially named the Terrorism Screening Database, which is run by the Terrorist Screening Center of the FBI. This database is the central repository of suspected, as well as known domestic and international terrorists of the country.

It consists of the names of alleged international terrorists given by the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment that the National Counterterrorism Center maintains with regard to the US intelligence community, as well as security agencies with information about terrorists. It contains data on local terrorists that was presented by the FBI.

The database only has the information needed to identify terrorists and it does not contain any classified information on them concerning what they have done, or how they are being tracked. The Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment keeps classified information on foreign terrorists, whereas the FBI maintains that of the domestic terrorists.

How the terrorism screening database is used

Additional lists are produced based on the Terrorism Screening Database to serve different purposes. For instance, the No Fly and Selectee lists prevent certain individuals from boarding a flight or further scrutinize them. To be part of the No Fly or Selectee list, there should be other evidence on a person’s threat to aviation security, and clear identifying data is required beyond the usual reasonable suspicion.

The Known and Appropriately Suspected (KST) file is the other list derived from the Terrorism Screening Database. Clear identifying information is required to be added to the KST file. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which checks the purchases of firearms, questions the KST. Being included on the file does not prevent an individual from purchasing a gun, but marks the purchase to be further reviewed. The person is only allowed to buy a firearm if he is not a felon, fugitive from justice, illegal immigrant, mentally ill or banned from purchasing a gun due to other legal reasons.

Standard of proof required to be included on the terrorism screening database

To be included on the Terrorism Screening Database, government officials recommend a person whom, with “reasonable suspicion”, they believe to be engaged or aid in terrorist activities. However, there should also be an adequate level of identifying information to add the individual on the list. Legal battles on ways to be removed from the No Fly list have been going on and continue up to this moment.
